Path of Inquiry

People come to coaches because they want to accomplish big things or solve big problems. Too often, coaching clients think they know what they want, but really don't. Your job as a coach, is to reveal what the client really wants, find out what's stopping them from having it and help them get it.

The three types of questions in the following graphic will help you do that. How?
  1. When you reveal what's wrong with the client's situation, as well as what's right (there are always benefits to problems; that's why we have them), you uncover the Inner Dynamic of the situation.
  2. When you reveal what's wrong and what they want instead, you'll find what's in the way of getting what they want.
  3. When you reveal what's right with the status quo and what they want instead, you uncover what's stopping them. It's simple.

Thanks for sharing this simple graphic, Julia. I like to use a similar frame of reference for clients when I’m coaching, too. It IS simple, but not at all obvious when people are confused…

Glad you started up this community here at LH!
